Since 1981, at the FTR plant, for green sand casting, we have been producing metal parts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Our foundry process consists of producing pieces with the desired shape, by filling sand molds with metal, previously processed in furances, to bring it to the melting point and thus change its initial solid state.
Our metals for casting
Gray Iron
Melting temperature: 1,350°C – 1,400°C
Gray iron features
- This ferrous alloy generally contains more than 2% carbon and more than 1% silicon, in addition to manganese, phosphorous and sulfur.
- Carbon is generally found as graphite, taking irregular shapes described as “flakes.”
- It is a material with good machinability characteristics.
- It is a metal with good wear resistance.
- It has good thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity.
- Gray cast iron has an excellent damping capacity, which is given by graphite because it absorbs energy and converts it into heat.
Gray iron production
- We have the experience and technique developed to make alloys according to the mechanical property requirements of the foundry.
- From our purchasing process we start quality control for this process, by selecting suitable scrap, mostly automotive parts.
- Foundry work from 1 piece onwards.
- Our gray iron furnace has the capacity to process 500 Kg/hour of material.
- Capacity to produce pieces of up to 600 Kg.
Aluminum
Melting temperature: 660°C
Aluminium features
- It is a non-ferrous metal of low density (2.7gr/cm3)
- Despite its low weight it has high resistance.
- Aesthetically, it allows very good finishes through its brightness.
- It is a metal with high resistance to corrosion.
- Its thermal conductivity is approximately 50% – 60% of that of copper.
- It is an ideal metal for making kitchen utensils without causing harmful effects to health.
- High recyclability, approximately 5% of the energy used for the production of new aluminum is needed to recycle the aluminium.
Aluminum production
- We have a morgan-250 type tilting furance.
- Capacity to produce pieces from a few grams up to 90Kg.
- Foundry work from 1 piece onwards.
- Proper selection of scrap, using “thick aluminum” as raw material.
- Serial production by molding in presses
Bronze
Melting temperature: 830°C – 1,020°C
Bronze features
- It is any metallic alloy of copper and tin in which the first constitutes its base and the second appears in a proportion of 3 to 20%.
- It was the first important alloy obtained by man.
- It is currently applied in mechanical parts resistant to friction and corrosion, such as musical instruments, parts in contact with seawater, and others.
- It is a metal that has great ductility.
- It offers few difficulties to be mechanized.
- It has excellent electrical conductivity.
